Global Medicine - 2021 Course has been cancelled
The Global Medicine (GM) course is a two week educational activity designed to prepare deploying medical personnel for a wide range of operational requirements through a combination of lectures and laboratory exercises. This is part of a tri-service program to provide relevant global health and operational medicine content to deploying physicians, this course is led by the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM).
In addition to providing instruction on traditional disease topics such as hepatitis and diarrhea, malaria, sexually transmitted infection, and intestinal parasitic infections, the course emphasizes successful design and implementation of a plan that minimizes the health risk of the endemic natural biologic hazards to a deploying or deployed force. Historically US Navy attendees were selected and funded through the Naval Medical Leader & Professional Development Command (NML&PDC) Military Tropical Medicine program, however there is no funding this year. Navy applicants can be funded by their respective commands to attend. The course is held at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. While Navy seat availability may vary, typically 20-25 personnel are able to attend.
Eligibility
Physicians anticipating assignment to operational settings, including general medical officers. Priority is given to those applicants who have not previously taken this or the Military Tropical Medicine Course, though these individuals still may apply.
